Larry Spruill

Larry Spruill Jr. has been part of the WSB-TV family since March 2022. He is an Emmy Nominated Journalist with over 12 years of news and storytelling experience. Previously, he was in Detroit, where he played a pivotal role reporting the news during the Detroit Black Lives Matter protests. These large-scaled gatherings garnered national attention as a result of the racial tension throughout the nation due to untimely deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Rayshard Brooks and Breonna Taylor. He was handpicked by his news director for this news beat, and he put himself in harm's way; to ensure these important stories were shared in a professional and authentic manner with his audience, specifically the Black Community. Larry is committed to excellence in everything that he does and takes his career very seriously. Also, he provided exclusive coverage during the following big stories, which gained the national spotlight: COVID-19 Pandemic from a Detroit perspective, Dayton Mass Shooting and Aretha Franklin’s Funeral. Prior to arriving in Detroit, Larry worked at WJAX in Jacksonville, Florida. When Hurricane Irma came blowing through Florida, he was one of the lead reporters working around the clock. Larry also worked for WJCL-TV in Savannah, Georgia and WGXA-TV in Macon, Georgia. He began his career at WMAZ-TV in Macon, Georgia. Larry grew up in Atlanta, is a huge foodie, and he loves his mother’s food. He also enjoys working out and singing. He is a also proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and the National Association of Black Journalists. He’s also a graduate of Valdosta State University.
