LAMAR COUNTY, Ga. — The Lamar County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in the murder of a metro Atlanta 17-year-old.
D’Shaunti Hunter was found dead in a cemetery Sunday afternoon in Barnesville, 40 miles away from her home in Ellenwood.
Lamar sheriff investigators, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and US Marshals arrested 22-year-old Jaylan Jashad Ray of Albany.
Ray was arrested in Tallahassee and warrants have been issued for murder and aggravated assault.
We’re working to learn more about the arrest, for Channel 2 Action News starting at 4 p.m.
Her family told Channel 2′s Tom Jones she had left for work Saturday and they never heard from her later that night.
“Why did she end up at a place she wasn’t supposed to be instead of work?” her aunt Jazmine Johnson said. “This is crushing us. They stole from us. This is wrong.”
Lamar County Sheriff Brad White said Hunter was discovered by a family visiting their loved one’s gravesite on Highfalls Road. White said Hunter was lying on her back with a gunshot wound.
Jones asked the sheriff if someone drove her there or walked her back to the location where her body was found.
“No. We had tire tracks. We feel quite confident that they drove her back here,” White said.
