Atlanta police honor fallen Capitol officer as his remains pass through Atlanta’s airport

ATLANTA — The Atlanta Police Department’s motorcycle unit escorted the body of fallen Capitol Police Officer Billy Evans as his casket passed through Atlanta’s airport Wednesday.

Evans was killed in Washington, D.C. on April 2nd after a man rammed he and another officer with his car and threatened them with a knife. The driver, 25-year-old Noah Green, was shot and killed by police. The other officer, Ken Shaver, survived.

On Wednesday, Evans’ remains passed through Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport as he began his journey to his final resting place.

Photos show Atlanta police motorcycles lined up outside the plane carrying Evans’ flag-draped casket.

On Tuesday, Evans’ lay in honor in the Capitol Rotunda as his 7 and 9-year-old children looked on. He will be buried Thursday in Adams, Massachusetts.

“Keeping the family of Officer Evans in our thoughts and prayers. May he rest in eternal peace,” the department wrote on Facebook.
