Heart transplant recipient connects with sister of donor

SOUTH FULTON — A heart transplant recipient recently connected with the sister of his donor.

They’re using this remarkable story of a second chance at life to bring awareness to the importance of organ donation.

Channel 2′s Veronica Griffin talked to them as they got ready to go to the Elton John concert tonight.

Elton John’s music is a special way for them to connect.

The song “Daniel” is the donor’s first name.  That song isn’t part of this tour, but their backup plan song works just as well.

In concert last night in North Carolina, Vannessa Blais listened to her brother’s heart beat,  which is now giving life to Steve Hilfiker.

Both men had being hanging on to life before Blais’ family made the selfless and loving decision to help others through organ donation.

The Elton John song “Someone Saved My Life Tonight” has special meaning for Hilficker, who now has a second chance at life.

Hilficker and Blais managed to make their way onto the concert floor at last.night’s concert, and they hope to do the same thing tonight here in the Atlanta metro.

Hilficker made a short proof-of-concept documentary called “StoneHeart, an Undying Gift” about his transplant recovery. The film was screened at the Cannes Film Festival on May 25.
