WATCH: Man robbed and shot at by thieves in parking lot of Lenox Square

ATLANTA — Atlanta police say a man was robbed and shot at by two thieves in a parking deck at Lenox Square.

Surveillance video shows shoppers running for safety Sunday afternoon as the two robbers opened fire near Macy’s.

Misha Baylor works across the street from Lenox Square.

She told Channel 2′s Tom Regan that her shopping days there are over.

“It happens so frequently now. I kid you not, I don’t need to go to the mall,” Baylor said.

Surveillance video from the latest robbery shows a white SUV pull up on the 4th floor of the parking deck outside Macy’s.

The video shows two men get out and confront a shopper, demanding his wallet. The man then runs, dropping the wallet as the robbers open fire.

You can see other shoppers also run for cover. The gunmen then drive off.

“You don’t feel safe anytime just parking in the parking lot,” Baylor said.

Fortunately, the victim wasn’t hit.

Police say earlier in the day, the two suspects tried to approach another shopper, but he got inside the mall before anything could happen.

In 2020, there were at least six shootings at Lenox Square. Arrests have been made in most of those cases.

The rash of shootings prompted extra security measures including metal detectors at mall entrances. More than 900 cameras now monitor the property as well as trained K9 patrols.

Despite all of this, violent crime at one of metro Atlanta’s busiest and most famous mall continues.

“Do you worry about your safety coming here to shop?” Regan asked a shopper.

“Yeah. It’s very sad,” the shopper said.

Police said a couple of the bullets fired Sunday damaged another car. The owner was inside at the time but was not hurt.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
