Murdered rapper remembered as ‘icon to the community’

ATLANTA — Atlanta’s music community is mourning the loss of a talented rap artist and community activist.

Trouble, whose real name is Mariel Orr, was shot to death while visiting a female friend at a Conyers apartment complex early Sunday morning.

“It’s one thing to be called an artist, another thing to be called an icon to the community. That’s what he was,” said Kiss 104.1 FM host Frank Ski.

Ski told Channel 2′s Tom Regan that he’s known the rapper for more than 10 years and says he collaborated with some of the biggest names in rap and hip hop.

“You’re talking about Jeezy, you’re talking about Drake, you’re talking about the Migos,” Ski said.

Ski, an Atlanta radio icon, appeared in a rap video by Trouble during the pandemic.

He said despite his fame, Trouble was considerate, personable and giving of his time and talent.

“Always supporting community events. If I needed something for the Frank Ski Kids Foundation, he would say, ‘What do you need me to do? How can I help out?’” Ski said.

Rockdale County sheriff’s investigators have arrest warrants for the man identified as the shooter, Jamichael Jones, 33. He’s believed to be from Jonesboro.

Authorities did not detail a possible motive for the shooting, only describing it as a “domestic situation.”

Many top hip hop artists have posted condolences and tributes to the late rapper, who died at age 34.

“He was great, a family man, everybody loved him. It’s really hard for a lot of people. He was that personable,” Ski said.
