‘We’re in a fight:’ Herschel Walker thanks supporters, says he’s confident in U.S. Senate race

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Republican U.S. Senate candidate Herschel Walker briefly addressed his supporters at an election night party in Cobb County.

The race between Walker and Sen. Raphael Warnock for who will become U.S. Senator remains too close to call.

We’re watching for any new developments in this razor-tight race, with LIVE Team 2 coverage on Channel 2 Action News This Morning.

Walker told supporters he is confident that he will win and asked supporters to “hang on a little longer” while votes continue to roll in.

“If you can hang in, hanging out a little bit longer, just hang in there a little bit longer, because something good, it takes a while for it to get better. And it’s going to get better. So, I wanted to thank you guys for hanging in. And if you saw me and you have to go home, you can wake up tomorrow morning and see that the new senator of the great state of Georgia is Herschel Walker,” Walker told his supporters.

Walker acknowledged that Sen. Raphael Warnock is a tough competitor.

“He’s gonna be tough to beat,” Walker said to supporters.

TRENDING STORIES:

Warnock won the seat two years ago to fill the remaining term of the late Sen. Johnny Isakson, who stepped down for health reasons midway through his term. Former Sen. Kelly Loeffler was appointed to the seat for about a year until an election could be held to fill it.

As of 10:30 p.m., Walker and Warnock were neck and neck at 49% and 48% of the vote, respectively.

Neither candidate so far has been able to meet the threshold of getting 50% + 1 vote, meaning the race could go into a runoff. If the race goes into a runoff, that election will be held on Dec. 6.
