Parents upset after 15-year-old boy stabbed at Morrow High School

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Channel 2 Action News has learned that a 15-year-old student was stabbed at a Clayton County high school last week.

Paramedics told Channel 2′s Tom Jones that the boy was stabbed twice at Morrow High School in Ellenwood. He was taken to the hospital and was stable.

The boy’s identity and condition have not been released.

A number of parents have called Channel 2 Action News asking about the incident, which was captured on cellphone video.

The video shows one student appear to pull another by the hair or head while that student bleeds. The victim then jerks away, slipping in a pool of blood.

Jones talked to several parents who voiced their concerns on the Facebook group Clayton County Moms and Dads. Some complained that school officials did not give them enough information.

One parent posted, “we only got the video from other students. Nothing from the dang school. It’s irresponsible.”

Jones spoke to parent Andriah Nelson by phone. She said her daughter told her there had been a stabbing at the school. She rushed to the school to pick her up. He asked her if her 9th-grader was afraid.

“She was terribly afraid,” she said.

Nelson says it seemed like the school wanted to minimize what happened.

“We got a Robocall about 6pm Friday evening. And the way that the robocall was worded it alluded to that it wasn’t a big deal. You would have never known that anybody was stabbed,” she said. Nelson said she didn’t like the fact the school referred to it as an “incident” and not a stabbing.

Channel 2 Action News asked repeatedly for more information from the school district about what happened Friday.

Clayton County Public Schools would only say it is aware of the incident and its police department is investigating. It also said student safety is a top priority and this matter will be handled in alignment with the district’s Code of Conduct and Student Handbook, as well as with judicial intervention, as appropriate.

Nelson says she is looking to transfer her daughter out of this school because of the stabbing and because of another incident involving her daughter and another student.
