Decatur City School officials postpone in-person learning until 2021

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Students in Decatur will be learning from home a few months longer than expected after the school district postponed in-person learning.

In a school board meeting on Oct. 13, officials revised its plan for students' and staff members' return to school. They won’t be back any earlier than January.

Here’s what they decided:

Students returning to in-person learning:

• Early childhood students (birth through age 3) may remain in school as planned.
• Students served in the adapted curriculum special education program may still return as scheduled Monday, Oct. 19.
• The students previously scheduled to return in November will not return to in-person learning any sooner than Jan. 5, with the exception of future proposals for specific activities and programs. Virtual learning will continue.

Employees returning to work in buildings:

• Employees previously scheduled to return on Oct. 19 can continue to work remotely.
• Employees who returned to working in CSD facilities on Oct. 12 may resume working remotely.

Schools in the city of Decatur have been closed since March due to the pandemic.
