A home surveillance camera shows someone turning the camera right before breaking in around 8 p.m.

Johnson told Channel 2 that the burglars pried open their windows to get inside and steal electronics. They’re not sure if the thieves took Papo or if he escaped during or after the burglary out of fear.

“I’m hoping he’s safe somewhere and not just roaming around. More than anything, I just want him to be safe,” Johnson said.

Flyers with Papo’s picture are floating around social media and in the neighborhood.

The owners are offering a $5,000 reward for his return with no questions asked.

“We’re trying to figure out a way to get him back,” Johnson said.

Johnson says they’ve taken measures to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

“We’ve reinforced all of the windows and heightened up the alarm system and the cameras, and I think most people probably should do that as well. Because in hindsight, you can lose a lot,” he said.
