Douglas County K9 and handler retiring together

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — A Douglas County K9 is ending his career with the same man he started it with.

K9 Saryk and Deputy Maxwell are both retiring from service from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Saryk joined the force from Holland in 2015 and was immediately assigned to Maxwell.

The pair underwent 16 weeks of training in South Carolina and then began their “very successful” career fighting crime together.

Maxwell will be pursuing a career outside of law enforcement, but not without his trusty sidekick by his side. Saryk will live out his life with Maxwell and his family.

“[Saryk’s] truly earned his retirement and all the belly rubs and treats that come along with it,” the department said in a Facebook post.

The department says Saryk and Maxwell put numerous criminals behind bars, got drugs off the streets and entertained hundreds of children in public demonstrations throughout their time together.

“We will truly miss this pair here at the DCSO and the community will miss their contributions to keeping our streets safe,” the post continued.
