Metro Atlanta crews remove trees ahead of plunging temps, high winds

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — Tree removal crews are busy taking down trees and limbs, as this weather system will bring strong winds.

With the potential of 30 to 40 mph winds accompanying the artic plunge Friday through the Christmas

weekend, some homeowners are taking preventative measures to guard against falling trees and limbs.

A Douglas County homeowner hired a crew to remove 40 trees that were perilously close to her home.

“With the strong wind, limbs and branches will freeze, they can break off and put a danger to people’s homes, and cars” said Serious Tree Service Manager Bryon Mazariegos.

Mazariegos said his crew has been working the last two days removing the trees. Many showed signs of decay. He said recent heavy rains have increased the risk of trees being uprooted by high winds.

“Everything is saturated in the ground, the roots. " said Mazariegos.

The tree service manager said the homeowner told him the timing of the tree removal was ideal with severely cold weather approaching.

“She told me she is thankful she made the decision to get these tree out. Most of them were hanging over her house.” said Mazariegos.

Mazriegos said if you have trees close to your house, it’s worth taking a close look at them to see if there’s signs of decay.
