Local Firehouse Subs fails latest health inspection with score of 63

ROSWELL — UPDATE Jan. 22, 2020: The restaurant scored a 100 on its re-inspection.

EARLIER VERSION:

A chain sandwich shop in Roswell failed a health inspection after having several food temperature violations. It is Firehouse Subs on Woodstock Road.

Just six months ago, that location had an A. In the last week, it got a U, which stands for unsatisfactory. Almost all of the violations were new ones.

Two former firefighters who are brothers founded Firehouse Subs in the 1990s.

On Dec. 27, the Firehouse Subs failed the health inspection with a score of 63. That’s not what regular customer, David Niehaus expected to hear. He told Channel 2’s Carol Sbarge he was surprised because he eats there just about every day and says the food has always been good.

Violations included observed two containers of meatballs reheating on the steam table at too low of a temperature, chicken salad in the reach-in cooler not held cold enough and the potato soup in the steam table not held hot enough.

Sbarge went to the Firehouse Subs Thursday to ask about the big drop in their inspection score. The manager was not there but sent Sbarge an e-mail.

It said in part, “The quality of our food and overall guest experience is a top priority. Following the inspection, the in-restaurant team immediately developed an action plan to address each of the items noted in the inspection.”

The manager expects the re-inspection any day now. We’ll let you know how they do.
