Gwinnett County 7th grader inspired by Black History has now published his third book about it

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Matthew Carson is quite passionate about books.

“I love reading. It’s one of my favorite things to do,” said Carson.

The Gwinnett County 7th grader started very, very early.

“Every parent wants to have their children to have a love for reading. We kind of took it a step further,” his father, Michael, said.

More like ten steps.

Matthew is currently reading ‘Unsung African-American History Makers’ and chapter 20 is about Lucy Harris.

“Drafted by the New Orleans Jazz in 1977, she didn’t play for them but she was drafted and actually made the first basket in the Olympics for women’s basketball,” Carson read aloud.

He is not only reading it, he wrote it.

Channel 2′s Wendy Corona first introduced you to Matthew a year ago when he had just published his second book at the age of 12. Unsung History Makers is number three.

He’s quite a hit with his fans when he visits local libraries.

“You wrote books? Wow! I didn’t know about the stuff you put in these books. That’s amazing!”

TRENDING STORIES:

He and his dad have worked together on these projects, but the subjects of the three books are all Matthew. He says Black history has always inspired him, and he wants everyone to know about these unsung history makers.

“I wanted them to be household names. That’s one of the reasons I wanted to write the book,” Matthew said.

The author will be on a book tour during Black History Month. Stay tuned for dates at libraries and bookstores near you.
