Concerns continue for Hall County homeowners worried new development is damaging their property

HALL COUNTY, Ga. — Reunion Country Club residents tell Channel 2′s Ashli Lincoln they are frustrated about increased water runoff from a neighboring subdivision development.

“We had over 700 residents to sign the petition that they did not want this to happen, and they did not care,” said Rhonda McKinney.

Residents showed Channel 2 images from recent flooding.

“The water and the silt was covering the street and the parking lot,” said Marlon McKinney.

Last fall, Channel 2 reported on concerns from Newton County residents who were experiencing flooding issues, which they attributed to a neighboring Pulte subdivision.

“Behind my house, I got a pond,” Newton County homeowner Daniel McCullum said.

Residents say after the development broke ground on Kirkland Road in Covington, their backyards became a constant flow of water.

Pulte addressed both properties in a statement saying:

We continue to work with Newton County officials to ensure Westfield Village’s stormwater management and drainage system operates properly. Pulte Homes is committed to being a good neighbor in the community, which includes installing additional drainage solutions requested by the county, in good faith to help alleviate any future concerns of neighboring properties. At this time, we have not been notified of any drainage issues.

As part of our land development and in accordance with Hall County, Pulte Homes is developing Reunion with required stormwater management solutions to ensure surrounding properties are not impacted. This includes installing stormwater collection drains within our site and buffer plantings along the property lines to effectively manage water onsite and screen our newest phase from the existing homes. We remain actively engaged with county officials through the development process. Pulte Homes prides itself on being a positive presence and an integral part of the communities where we build.
