Street sweeping is one way Henry County emergency management prepares for any flooding and strong winds from tropical storm Nicole.

A stormwater crew was shoveling to clear a pathway for blocked drains.

“When a storm is coming, they take extra care of areas that may tend to flood. The storm drains are clear there, so there’s no problem with that,” Melissa Robins, spokesperson for Henry County Government, said.

Sharon White tells Griffin her street has flooded in the past, and she is happy to see the county being proactive.

“They’re trying to make it safe for everybody, people here already or people trying to make out from the brunt of the storm,” White said.

The deputy director of Henry County emergency management, Kevin Johnson, says that with winds up to 40 mph, neighbors will want to prepare areas around their homes.

“The wind gust can pick up table chairs, anything outside. Make sure that’s brought in. Make sure pets are brought inside. Because the winds are going to get intense and we have heavy rain coming,” Johnson said.

Henry County emergency management crews will be on call 24 hours due to the storm, and residents can visit the county’s website for updates.
