ATLANTA, Ga. — If you didn’t get your Girl Scout cookies earlier this year, fear not because more are available.

The Girl Scout Council of Greater Atlanta says that while they saw a 150% increase online sales of cookies during the pandemic, the increase didn’t make up for the lack of door-to-door or cookie booth sales.

Because of that, the Girl Scouts say they’ve been left with a surplus of over 720,000 boxes. To put that in size terms, they said those nearly 3/4 of a million boxes put down end-to-end would be roughly the length of I-285 around metro Atlanta

The Girl Scouts add the lack of sales translates to roughly 1/3 fewer dollars for them to hold troop adventures, service projects, camping programs and help the thousands of girls who rely on them for financial assistance to participate as Girl Scouts.

Because of how important the sale money is for the Scouts, they’ve decided to extend their cookie sale through the end of April. They are asking anyone interested in ordering or donating cookies to pandemic front-line workers to go to showmethecookies.com to place an order and say the shipping is free to anyone who buys more than eight boxes.

Local Girl Scouts CEO Amy Dosik is hoping any corporations or organizations looking for a good gift to others will pitch in.

“Girl Scout cookies make a great finals care package for college students or employee engagement rewards,” Dosik said.

Dosik said they’ve had to pivot to more virtual and hybrid programs for the girls, but their mission continues.

“During this past year, Girl Scouts never stopped providing the high quality, engaging content we’re known for,” Dosik said. “Girl Scouts has been an essential link for thousands of girls and families to stay connected socially in a challenging, isolating year.”
