Local teen honors Channel 2’s Jovita Moore with swimming fundraiser raising money for charity

A Gwinnett County teenager is bringing together two of his favorite things: swimming and Channel 2′s Jovita Moore.

London Asher Brown, 15, said most of the time he’d rather be swimming.

“It’s gonna be a happy moment. It’s not gonna be a thing people are dreading or don’t want to go to. It’s gonna be a happy moment doing such a good thing,” said London.

London’s mother said the teen grew up watching the news and, in particular, WSB-TV Channel 2 Action News.

“And it wouldn’t matter which news station it was. It was always, ‘There’s Action News!’ I said, ‘London, it’s Channel 2 Action News,’” said Monisha Brown.

Our own Jovita Moore, who is currently battling an aggressive form of brain cancer, was part of his childhood. London wants her to know what that meant to him so he has organized a “swim-a-thon” in her honor. It’s called “A Day for Jovita Moore.”

London’s coach, Michael Reynolds, said members of the Dynamo Swim Club and folks from all over the community will take part in the relay. It will last for 24 hours and raise money for Our House Atlanta and The National Brain Tumor Society. These charities just happen to be two of Moore’s favorites.

“When one of us comes out for help, we all come out,” said Reynolds.

“Jovita, we’re here with you. You impacted the most unassuming members of our society. So don’t ever underestimate who you touched. A 15-year-old boy from Gwinnett County. And here he is, concerned about you,” said Brown.
