‘Get it if you can’: Alpharetta police officer recovering from COVID-19 regrets not getting vaccine

ALPHARETTA, Ga. — An Alpharetta police officer has spent four weeks in the hospital trying to recover from COVID-19.

Officer Clinton Martin said every member of his family caught the virus. He, his wife and oldest child all ended up in the hospital.

“Unfortunately, I waited a little bit too long. Because I waited for me not to have pretty much no oxygen before I got help,” Martin said.

Martin and his wife were both hesitant about getting vaccinated but not anymore.

“Educate yourself about the vaccine and get it if you can,” Martin said.

His family at the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety are doing everything they can to help. They’ve organized meal trains, a GoFundMe and have donated their own paid time off.

“They’re really the ones stepping up and staying in constant touch with his family with him and trying to ascertain any needs they have and meet those needs,” said Chief John Robison.

Martin said he’s beyond thankful for the support.

“It was very emotional. And I didn’t have all the words to explain how much it meant, meant to me and my family and what they’re doing was,” Martin said.
