Scammers pretending to be county employees testing water to sell filters across metro Atlanta

PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. — One metro Atlanta county government is warning residents about a new scam making its way around.

Paulding County officials say a group of people are going around pretending to be county employees to check water meters.

Several victims have reported that the scammers knock on their doors and tell them there is a water quality concern in the area.

Officials say the scammers have set up appointments with some victims and even gotten into their homes. The scammers then try to sell water filters.

It is unclear if the filters are real or being sold for above-market prices.

County officials say that even if the filters are real, the scammers are not.

They say that if any Paulding County employee comes to your home, they’ll identify themselves and have a county-issued ID.
