Quicker delivery and new jobs: Amazon opening 5 new distribution centers in metro Atlanta

ATLANTA — Amazon is opening five new distribution centers in the suburbs of Atlanta.

The new centers will help get packages to your doorstep much quicker and more efficiently. They are mostly located in the northern suburbs in the cities of Acworth, Alpharetta, Doraville, Duluth with one on the southside in Forest Park.

The new distribution centers will be massive, with some as large as 10 football fields. Packages will be sorted and put on trucks for delivery. The company will need more workers to help run these large facilities.

Amazon is looking to hire as many as 200 employees at each center. Pay starts at $15/hour. Jobs are posted on Amazon’s website.

The workers will work along with private contractor delivery drivers to get the job done.

“There’s a lot of opportunity, especially in the Atlanta area,” said Khary Miller, owner of Black Star Deliveries.

Miller’s team is a delivery service partner for Amazon that consists of more than 30 trucks with 70 drivers.

“From a small business owner, partnering with Amazon, we’re meeting that demand so the more packages need delivering online, the more drivers we can employee,” he said. “We’re always in demand, always hiring.”

Some of the new centers will move into existing facilities, while a couple will be built from the ground up.
