Several AMC theaters reopening today in Georgia with new changes

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Beginning today, you can go to see a movie in a theater just like old times, but with new changes.

More than a dozen AMC theaters in metro Atlanta will be reopening today months after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the favorite past time to close.

As part of the reopening promotion, and to mark their 100th year in business, AMC will be offering 15 cent movie tickets today, which was the same price as a ticket sold in the 1920s.

The movies shown in AMC theaters will include New Mutants, Tenet and others.

AMC says movie-goers will experience some new changes at its theaters, and they’re all designed to keep everyone safe.

There will be a significant reduction in the tickets available for each showtime and seat blocking in reserved seating auditoriums to allow for appropriate social distancing between parties.

AMC also says it has enhanced cleaning procedures that include extra time between showtimes to allow for a full, thorough cleaning and nightly disinfecting utilizing electrostatic sprayers, use of high tech HEPA vacuums and upgraded air filtration efforts including the use of MERV 13 filters wherever possible.

Movie-goers and associates will also be required to wear a mask in the theaters.

Other movie theaters’ plans for reopening

Regal Cinemas, the nation’s second largest chain, plans to reopen some locations Aug. 21.

Cinemark, the third largest theater chain with locations in more than 25 states including Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania, started a phased reopening of its theaters earlier in the summer.
