Shoppers look for last-minute winter weather supplies ahead of this weekends weather

ATLANTA — Many of you have already stocked up on winter weather supplies. If you haven’t, you may have trouble finding some of the items you’re looking for.

“Most of the shelves are empty at some of the stores,” said Monica Wallace. She was on a mission Friday to find ice melt. She’s preparing for the winter storm.

“I went to Home Depot and they didn’t have any of the salt so I came here,” said Wallace.

She found what she needed at the Ace Hardware on Buford Drive in Lawrenceville, where workers say it’s been a busy week as people get ready for ice and snow.

“We’re going through rock salt like crazy and generator sales are picking up because people are pretty worried about the weather,” said employee Heather Sosebee.

She said staffing issues with people out sick and supply chain delays aren’t helping.

“We’re selling out of propane. We’ve been on backorder for propane since before Thanksgiving,” said Sosebee.

At Glaze True Value Hardware in Cumming, supply chain back orders mean they sold out of sleds quickly.

“The phone calls have been off the hook,” said Lee Glaze.

They weren’t able to get any new sleds in stock this winter. The ones Glaze True Value Hardware did sell, were left over from last year.

“In years past we’ve had them and we could get them. Mark would sell hundreds of them and we’d line them in front of our store,” said Glaze.

And that means they’re missing out on revenue.

“We can’t even get batteries. We’re almost low on batteries because they’re out of stock of just regular batteries,” said Glaze.
