Trooper dragged during traffic stop, police searching for man who escaped (update)

ATLANTA — Update Sunday:

Georgia State Patrol officials tell Channel 2 Action News the trooper in this incident, Markus White was treated and released from Grady Hospital.

We’re told the passenger who drove the car that dragged White has still not be found.

From Saturday Night:

Georgia State Patrol and Atlanta police are searching for a passenger they say escaped during a traffic stop and injured a trooper.

Officials told Channel 2 Action News that the trooper has been taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with a head injury.

Georgia State Patrol said this started as a traffic stop near Hank Aaron Drive and Bill Lucas Drive around 8:45 p.m. Saturday night.

The trooper pulled over a car with a broken tail light and detained the driver after smelling marijuana.

According to the report, the trooper went around to the passenger side when the man crawled into the driver’s seat and tried to take off.

The trooper was dragged down Bill Lucas Drive and hit his head on the asphalt.

An APD officer was riding with the trooper at the time of the traffic stop and took the driver into custody. GSP said the car was abandoned and the passenger is still on the run.

There is no description at this time of the man they are searching for.
