Southern Belle Farm invites families to pick strawberries, while social distancing

McDonough, Ga — On a typical spring day, Southern Belle Farm in McDonough, Georgia would be packed with families and children out in the fields berry picking, while also experiencing the many other fun activities on the farm.

But amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Henry County farm has had to tweak its operation, to ensure its visitors feel safe and are complying with social distancing rules.

Southern Belle Farm owner Jake Carter emphasized, “We’ve modified our approach to U-pick this year ... Folks as they enter into our U-pick field have to sanitize up ... They are bringing their container from home that they’ve picked in year after year, or we are providing them with a new bucket this year - we are not exchanging any containers."

And he’s ensuring that social distancing while berry picking is still in place, by having the field rows color-coded. Families are spread out in every other row to ensure significant space between them

It’s best to call ahead to make sure the farm is open, as it has had to close the U-pick experience to allow for more berries to ripen. You can check the farm website for hours of operations. To reach the farm call 770.288.2582.
