ELMIRA, N.Y. — If you have ever dreamed of living in a castle, then there’s a property that could fit the bill. But it is a bit of a fixer-upper.
The 41-room estate is located in Elmira, New York, and is listed for $99,000, Insider reported.
It’s being offered by Shane Searfoss of Signature Properties and is part of the town’s historic district, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, sitting on a lot that is nearly half an acre.
The home has 8,828 square feet but sadly is not inhabitable as it needs a lot of work.
The doors have stained glass paneling, but the obvious beauty ends as the rest of the home is in dire need of repairs.
Ceilings are missing, the floors are damaged and some rooms have no plaster hanging, photos on the home’s listing show.
But some work has already been done as a new roof has been installed and two “high energy efficient boilers” along with new electric service have been added. There is also a barn on the property but the listing said it is in “rough condition.”
This isn’t the only castle that has recently been offered at bargain-basement prices. Last year a Scottish castle in upstate New York went on the auction block for a starting bid of $25,000, NYUp.com reported.
That home, dubbed Auburn Castle, was located in Auburn, New York, and had been built for $7,000 in 1871, according to the auction’s listing.
It ended up going for $368,500, The Citizen reported.
