“That was what his purpose in life was supposed to be. As a pet. And his life was wasted, because of someone so selfish,” owner Alex Solenberg told WINK.

While the family has hundreds of cattle on their pasture, Johnny the bull was different. He was adopted with two others, June and Carter, and raised as part of the family.

“He had the disposition of like an 1,800-pound dog,” Solenberg said.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said someone broke into the pasture and slaughtered the bovine, most likely for meat.

The family’s 4-year-old daughter was with them when they discovered the carcass.

“They actually both got out of the truck and walked up to feed the cows and she saw what happened,” Solenberg said. “Nothing that cruel should be seen by someone that young.”

The family is offering a $5,000 reward to find out who slaughtered Johnny.
