Travis Bradley Witt, 37, of Madisonville, was charged with attempted aggravated arson, aggravated assault by attempted arson, assault by domestic assault and vandalism over $1,000, according to Monroe County Sheriff’s Office online booking records.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a call at about 6:07 p.m. EDT on April 6 about a man breaking things at a home and pouring gasoline on another man, the Advocate and Democrat of Madisonville reported.

Cpl. Billy Littleton of the sheriff’s office responded to the call and was told by a man and a woman that their son, later identified as Witt, had asked about the whereabouts of his daughter. Told that the girl was at cheerleading practice, Witt allegedly became angry and left the room, the newspaper reported.

When Witt returned to the room, he allegedly threw a cup of gasoline on his father, the Advocate and Democrat reported. The man said the gasoline splashed his eyes and mouth, adding that his son had a box of matches and was trying to light one of them, the newspaper reported.

The victim said he chased Witt out of the home with a fireplace pole. According to an arrest report, Witt told his parents that they were not going to keep him from his daughter and that he would “see them in hell.”

It was unclear who had custody of the child.

Witt was later picked up by a Monroe County deputy and was booked into the Monroe County Jail, the Advocate and Democrat reported.
