Braves vs. Dodgers: Will Atlanta clinch the series in NLCS Game 5?

LOS ANGELES — The Atlanta Braves quest to win a National League Championship continues Thursday night. The Braves lead the best of seven series 3-1 and can clinch the title with a win in Los Angeles.

Thanks to some heroics by outfielder Eddie Rosario and a great performance by the Braves bullpen, Atlanta won Wednesday night’s matchup 9-2.

Matchup: Atlanta Braves at Los Angeles Dodgers, Game 5

Time: First Pitch is scheduled for 8:08 p.m. Eastern time

Starting Pitchers: Max Fried starts for the Braves. The Dodgers have not announced a starting pitcher but have said they will have a “bullpen” game. Fried has been the Braves ace through the playoffs. He gave up two runs in six innings in his Game 2 start.

Key Matchups: Can the Braves beat the tired Dodgers bullpen? L.A. has leaned heavily on its relief corps to get through the series. Can the Dodgers hit? So far, the Dodgers have not been able to string together much success getting runners on base to score.

Fried has been the Braves best pitcher for the last two months of the season while the Dodgers will be without one of their best hitters. Third baseman Justin Turner strained a hamstring muscle late in Game 4 and is out for the rest of the series.

Atlanta sports fans are wary of saying “this is our year” but in fact it may well be.

The Braves quickly rebounded from their Game 4 loss and rolled the big win Wednesday night, something they’ve struggled to do in past playoff series.

A win Thursday night puts Atlanta in the World Series for the first time since 1999.

If they get there, the Braves would face either the Houston Astros or the Boston Red Sox. The Astros are leading the Red Sox, 3-1, as of Thursday.

The World Series is scheduled to kick off Tuesday, Oct. 26 in either Houston or Boston.
