Atlanta police name ‘person of interest’ in the death of missing GA basketball coach

Iquane Shaqille Brown Police say they identified 30-year-old Iquane Brown as a person of interest in the death of 59-year-old Samuel “Sammy” Jackson.

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — Atlanta police say they have identified the man who requested rideshare service from a former basketball coach who was found dead after being reported missing.

Police say they identified 30-year-old Iquane Brown as a person of interest in the death of 59-year-old Samuel “Sammy” Jackson.

Brown is currently in the custody of the Houston County Jail on an unrelated robbery charge out of Warner Robins.

According to WGXA, the former head basketball coach of Fort Valley State University men’s program was reported missing by his wife, Jill Jackson, on Jan. 27.

Jill Jackson told authorities she spoke with her husband on Sunday, Jan. 26 between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. as he prepared to start working as an Uber Eats driver at the Buc-ee’s on Russell Parkway in Fort Valley, Ga., WGXA reports.

She says she did not hear from Jackson again until 2:15 a.m. when he sent a text that read, “Do you know my social security number?”

On Wednesday, Jan. 29, APD was informed by the Houston County Sheriff’s Office of a possible body on Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy NW. He was later identified as Samuel Jackson.

According to Georgia Department of Corrections records, Brown has a criminal history spanning back to 2013. He was most recently incarcerated at the Ware State Prison in November of last year.
