3 tornadoes touched down during Sunday’s storms in north GA

Confirmed tornadoes The National Weather Service survey teams confirmed two EF-1 tornadoes in Gordon County and one EF-0 tornado in Chattooga County touched down on Sunday, May 25, 2025

GORDON COUNTY, Ga. — Three tornadoes touched down in north Georgia on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

Severe Weather Team 2 tracked the storms live on Channel 2 as tornado warnings were issued throughout the evening.

On Wednesday, preliminary reports stated that two EF-1 tornadoes in Gordon County and one EF-0 tornado in Chattooga County.

No injuries were reported with the storms.

“This makes 20 confirmed tornadoes in the WSB viewing area in 2025. Additional tornadoes may be confirmed from Tuesday’s storms,” Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

Here’s a detailed look at the paths for the tornadoes.

EF-0 Chattooga County

In Chattooga County, survey teams confirmed an EF-0 tornado with maximum winds of 75 mph.

It stayed on the ground for 3.93 miles from 6:40 p.m. to 6:50 p.m.

The tornado touched down between Trion and Subligna. The tornado lifted just east of Gore Subligna Road.

EF-1 Gordon County, southwest

The first EF-1 tornado had maximum winds of 95 mph and stayed on the ground for six miles.

The survey teams said the tornado likely skipped up and down its path.

The tornado touched down between Roland Hayes Pkwy and Reeves Station Road around 7:08 p.m. It lifted around 7:23 p.m. in the area of Miller Ferry Road to South Holcomb Road.

EF-1 Gordon County, north

A second EF-2 tornado had maximum winds of 90 mph and was briefly on the ground for only .26 mile.

The storm touched down along Owens Gin Road NE at 7:13 p.m. and lifted two minutes later.
