ATLANTA — 10-time WNBA All-Star Brittney Griner has agreed to a one-year deal with the Atlanta Dream, ESPN reports.
Griner, who has spent her entire 11-year pro-basketball career with the Phoenix Mercury, now comes to Atlanta in “one of the most stunning free agency signings in league history,” ESPN said.
The 6-foot-9 center decided this offseason to test free agency for the first time.

The 34-year-old Griner missed the 2022 season when she was detained for nearly 10 months in a Russian prison after authorities said a search of her luggage revealed vape cartridges containing oil derived from cannabis. She was freed in a prisoner swap when the United States released notorious Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout.
She comes to Atlanta as the biggest free agent signing in franchise history.
The move can’t be officially made until Feb. 1 when contracts are allowed to be signed.
