The children’s identities have not been released, but officials confirmed their ages are 2, 3 and 10 months.

Two adults were being evaluated on scene. Their conditions have not been released.

Officials say the fire started in the kitchen, and damage was contained to an upstairs apartment unit.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens came to the apartment complex to speak with those mourning the tragic loss.

“As a father of a child who grew up in a very similar community, my heart goes out to this family as we’re dealing with a tragic situation where three children, three infants passed away today,” Dickens said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
