ATLANTA — Some Beyoncé fans have questions for MARTA, after getting hurt at the Vine City train station following Monday’s concert.
A crowded escalator sped up and threw nine people off, including a little girl who broke her ankle.
Channel 2’s Tyisha Fernandes reported no one has been able to use the escalator since – it’s shut down while MARTA investigates.

One victim said she doesn’t believe the escalator was the problem, people piling onto it was. She hopes MARTA regulates how many people get on it in the future.
“All of us were basically thrown off the escalator on top of other people,” Jessica Barrett said.
Barrett is still upset from what happened to her and her friends after the Beyoncé concert, so she was only comfortable doing a phone interview.
She left the concert at Mercedes-Benz Stadium around midnight and tried to hop on a train. A huge crowd was doing the same thing.
“As we come through the doors to get ready to come down the escalator, as we come down, all of the sudden everybody that’s up inside the station they start to run,” she said. “So, people started to run out the station, people start to run back and then they start to push us down the stairs.”
MARTA police say the chaos started with one person screaming and running at the top of the escalator. It caused a chain reaction of people rushing to get off.
Barrett said the stampede injured at least nine people, including a crushed ankle for a little girl.
“It looked so bad, but my prayers are for her because she didn’t cry. She wasn’t yelling out. She really stood there with grace,” Barrett said. “And I was so amazed.”
MARTA is investigating. Questions about the capacity of the escalator were referred by MARTA to Schindler, the company that does maintenance on them.
