When they arrived, they saw a 39-year-old man walking in the path of interstate traffic. APD officials said officers tried multiple times to de-escalate the situation, but the man ran toward them.
That is when officers shot the suspect. He died at Grady Memorial Hospital. Police have not released his name.
“Investigators with the GBI were notified and will be leading this investigation. Thankfully, no innocent motorists nor officers were injured,” police said.
The initial investigation shut down I-75 SB for hours. Lanes started to reopen just before 6 a.m.
Atlanta Police says they will hold a news conference later this morning.
We have a crew at the news conference. Watch it LIVE on Channel 2 Action News This Morning from 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m.
