ATLANTA — WNBA superstar Brittney Griner has officially signed with the Atlanta Dream.

“Brittney is the perfect fit for this team, this organization and this city,” said General Manager Dan Padover. “She brings Hall of Fame talent, championship presence and leadership to our organization. This is a monumental moment for our franchise.”

Earlier this week, Griner, 34, confirmed reports that she was joining the team in a video on her social media accounts with Dream players Allisha Gray, Rhyne Howard and Jordin Canada.

“I need to introduce my new teammates because I will be joining the Atlanta Dream,” Griner said.

The ten-time All-Star, three-time Olympic Gold Medalist and 2014 WNBA Champion has played her entire WNBA career with the Phoenix Mercury since the team drafted the center No. 1 overall in the 2013 WNBA Draft. Griner decided to test the free agent waters and agreed to a one-year deal with Atlanta.

“Atlanta felt like home the moment I started thinking about this next chapter,” said Griner. “What led me here was the team, the players, and most importantly, my family. I’m excited to be part of this city, to connect with the community, and help elevate this team into championship contention.”

Griner said it was a hard decision, but she looks forward to a “rebrand” for her career.
