ATLANTA — The average price of gas in Georgia is on its way up, with the average price per gallon approaching $3.
That’s according to AAA’s gas price tracker, which reported the state average cost per gallon is currently $2.96, up three cents from the week before and four cents higher than last month. In Atlanta, the average per gallon was $2.98.
AAA said that meant to fill a 15-gallon gas tank, drivers are looking at about $44.40 at the pump.
Still, that’s less expensive than the national average, which is $3.12 per gallon, according to AAA.

As for why? There are a few reasons, according to the company.
“Wondering why your fill-up costs are increasing when everyone uses less gas? Because crude oil prices have shot up, intense demand for heating this chilly season and fresh sanctions against Russia,” Montrae Waiters, AAA-The Auto Club Group spokeswoman, said in a statement. “Drivers should always remember that oil prices shape 56% of your gas station tab. So, pricier oil means your wallet also feels it at the gas pump.”
