Gov. Kemp says he plans to find new tailgate location for UGA game following stadium restriction

LOS ANGELES — Governor Brian Kemp said in a tweet Saturday that he and his family arrived in Los Angeles and is looking for a place to tailgate ahead of Monday’s big game.

On Thursday, SoFi Stadium announced that tailgating would not be allowed in its parking lot before the Georgia Bulldogs national championship against TCU.

“Marty, the girls, and I just landed in California for the National Championship,” Gov. Kemp wrote in the tweet. “First thing we’re going to do is find a spot to tailgate with the best fans in the country!”

When SoFi Stadium made the announcement, Gov. Kemp expressed his dismay on Twitter by saying fans would not be able to enjoy the southern tradition of tailgating outside the stadium before the 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

“While California may not know this, in the South a tailgate with friends & family is the only way to prepare for a big game,” Gov. Kemp wrote on Twitter. “When Georgia hosts the 2025 #NationalChampionship , we’ll make sure fans are able to tailgate! Even if it’s at the state Capitol!!”

Typically, SoFi Stadium allows tailgating before Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers games, so this doesn’t appear to be a decision from the stadium. However, the Super Bowl didn’t allow tailgating either for the 2021 Rams vs. Bengals.
