BRRR: Arctic air moving in this weekend, leading to a cold week in north Georgia

ATLANTA — Showers on Saturday morning have moved out of metro Atlanta and north Georgia and are making way for an arctic blast.

Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Ashley Kramlich says there will be a few isolated showers tonight into the morning as a cold front swings through on Sunday.

Temperatures to start your Sunday will be in the 40s, however by the afternoon, temps will drop into the 30s. This will be the coldest air of the season as morning lows will be in the teens.

Kramlich says wind chills will be between -5 to 5 degrees Monday morning as temperatures will be at or near freezing for several hours.

Severe Weather Team 2 is continuing to monitor the chance for wintry weather in north Georgia, including metro Atlanta on Tuesday.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Big concern with frozen pipes bursting/water main breaks due to extreme cold
  • Enough cold air will be in place for possibility of snow Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday
  • The track of the low pressure will be key in determining how much snow metro Atlanta will see
  • Southerly track keeps the moisture to our south - less snow
  • Northerly track brings the moisture to metro Atlanta - higher snow chance
  • Temperatures will gradually warm-up later in the week as we head into the weekend
