Peach Pass looks to expand past Georgia’s interstates

Plans are in the works to make your holiday travel next year a little bit easier.

If you have a Peach Pass, you’ll soon be able to use it not just to zip around traffic jams, but park once you get to your destination.

The State Roads and Tollway Authority is working with Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport to create Peach Pass parking where drivers will be able to drive in and out without stopping at a ticket machine.

“You will see you charges on your Peach Pass account. You won’t have to look for your little ticket,” SRTA executive director Chris Tomlinson said.

He told Channel 2′s Tony Thomas that the airport’s new west parking garage will be the first one to offer the parking early next year.

“If that works well we can see rolling that out to some of their other parking facilities,” Tomlinson said.

But Tomlinson said that’s just the beginning. Peach Pass could expand to Stone Mountain Park, Lake Lanier Islands, and maybe even private parking decks in downtown and the Atlanta suburbs.

Using Peach Passes to access gated apartment complexes or subdivisions is also being considered.

“Once people have gone ahead and added this sticker to their window, we want to see if there are ways we can increase the value proposition for people,” Tomlinson said.

This also comes as the state authority is getting ready to expand Peach Pass to be able to be used on tollways in 19 other states and Ontario, Canada, the eastern seaboard and into the Midwest, which should be online later next year.
