JESUP, Ga. — A person’s body was found inside a burned down south Georgia home earlier this week. But it’s been weeks since the house caught fire.
Jesup city officials announced this week that a body was found inside a home on North Palm Street on Jan. 24. That building had burned down on Jan. 6.
They did not comment on if the body had been burned along with the home earlier this month or if it was placed there more recently.

Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the fire and Jesup police are now investigating the person’s death.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
City Manager Nicholas Ellis says they expect the police chief to request the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation if the results of an autopsy point to any suspicion of foul play.
