Braves first base coach enjoys watching his son’s acting career take off

ATLANTA — The Atlanta Braves have 15 coaches on their team, but only one of them has a son that’s chasing his dreams in Hollywood.

Sometimes during batting practice at Truist Park, you might see a young actor working out with the Braves.

“What I love about acting the ability to play different characters and portray different emotions on camera,” Dallas Young told Channel 2′s Alison Mastrangelo.

Young is a rising star who’s been in several well-known tv series like “Cousins for Life,” “The Fosters,” and “Cobra Kai.”

His dad is Eric Young Sr., a former professional baseball player who’s the Braves first base coach.

“So proud of the work he’s put in but it started at a young age. If he’s committed, he’d so it,” Eric Young said. “Do well with anything he puts his mind to.”

Dallas Young grew up an athlete playing football, basketball and of course baseball. But his career path changed about six years ago when his family received a call about an acting showcase in Houston.

“I’ll be honest with you, no thought in my mind about acting until I was nine years old and they called me. I was training to be a professional baseball player since three years old,” he told Mastrangelo. “It took me a completely different direction and I’ve loved acting ever since.”

Since that phone call, his life has changed. Young has taken acting classes, hired an agent and moved to Los Angeles with his mom.

But don’t worry: he says he’s still able to use his competitive nature in acting.

“I always wanted to be the best as what I did. So whether it’s baseball, acting, football, basketball it doesn’t matter. I was able to adjust to a different career with that.”

Whenever he’s not filming or auditioning, he flies back to Atlanta or wherever the Braves are playing to hang out with his dad.

Eric Young enjoys watching his son’s acting career take off.

“The thing I love about Dallas is he just stays humble. He knows this is a big role he has with Cobra Kai, just trying to perfect his craft. That’s why he’s going to be successful in whatever he touches because he’s always looking to improve,” he said.

Dallas Young says his ultimate goal is to win an Oscar for Best Actor one day. Last month, he received some good news when “Cobri Kai” promoted him to series regular.

The fifth season premieres on Netflix in September.
