The first call was from a person claiming he had shot his mother.

The caller then told 911 dispatchers that he was going to commit suicide and had a gun to his head.

Officers forcibly entered the apartment to make sure no one was in danger.

Believing the caller may have provided the wrong information, officers expanded their search to other buildings and apartments nearby.

The only apartment they could not contact was unit D-5 at 210 Bledsoe Street.

The apartment management told officers that the unit should be vacant.

But since officers saw lights on in that apartment, they forced their way inside.

Police said the people inside the apartment were confused but safe.

After the officers explained why they entered, the residents cooperated and said they understood the necessity of the officers’ actions.

Later in the day, police discovered that the calls were part of a targeted hoax.

The same person continued to make false reports, including another call to a crisis hotline falsely claiming murder at the same address.

Carrollton police are actively investigating the source of the calls and will pursue charges against that person.
