CARROLLTON, Ga. — A Carrollton police officer is in the Intensive Care Unit after being hit by a car while directing traffic.

The accident happened around 1:30 Wednesday afternoon on Highway 27 North in Carrollton. The roadway was shut down for about four hours.

Carrollton Police said a car hit 32-year-old Officer Dustin Krish while he was in the middle of the intersection in front of Ingles, directing traffic while a light was down near a construction zone.

“The traffic signals were down due to some power replacement in the area,” said Sgt. Jay Trawick with the Georgia State Patrol. “There was a Carrollton police officer vested up and directing traffic in the intersection, while doing that, a vehicle, SUV, came southbound, through the intersection, crossed over into the oncoming lanes, struck the officer, then struck another vehicle.”

Krish has been with the department for three years and works the day shift.

“His actual shift is the one who responded up here to it, but those officers were taken back and given grief counseling, some folks to talk to, and some services, so we’re taking care of them,” said Capt. Shannon Cantrell with the Carrollton Police Department.

Medics airlifted Krish to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.

Channel 2’s Eryn Rogers reported the officer suffered serious injuries but is stable.

The investigation into the collision continues, and no charges have yet been filed, Georgia State Patrol said.
