Clark Howard helps Georgia State Capitol get into holiday spirit at annual tree lighting

ATLANTA — The Georgia State Capitol got into the holiday spirit with its annual tree lighting.

“This is a season for giving and there’s just a lot of people that are out there that are looking for a way to give back,” Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp said.

Channel 2 consumer adviser Clark Howard was there to help light the tree and spread word for his Clarks Christmas Kids program.

This marks the 34th year for the program that aims to make sure every foster child in Georgia has a gift to open for the holidays.

“We call it Clark’s Christmas Kids, but it’s really Georgia’s Christmas Kids,” Howard said.

“For people that are looking for a cause, this is a this is a good one. This is for the children, is for kids, it’s for kids that are in foster care,” Kemp said.

Howard says foster children don’t always get a gift for the holidays or even their birthday.

Kemp says the state government looks for ways to give back to children in foster care.

“They’ve had a tough upbringing, and this is a way for them to see a little good, see a little light in the world and in our state,” Kemp said. “And it’s a way that, you know, we as state government can help give back.”

As of Monday, 14,000 gifts are still needed before Dec. 17. Click here for more information.
