On Monday, a jury found Shamel Quinton Crowder guilty of malice murder, two counts of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The conviction stems from the shooting death of Geoffrey Canty that occurred in December 2021.

According to the Clayton County District Attorney’s Office, Crowder agreed to sell Canty a gun for $300. The two met during Canty’s lunch break during work.

The DA said once the victim paid Crowder the $300, he used the gun to shoot Canty three times.

Crowder kept the money, and gun and left the victim bleeding out in the parking lot of his job, officials said. Canty later died from the gunshot wounds to his stomach.

The DA said the only eyewitnesses to the murder were the suspects charged in the case. Seven people testified on behalf of the State.

The State’s evidence during the trial included Crowder’s Instragam records where he said he was going to “pop [Canty] and dip” minutes before the murder.

Crowder was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole plus 25 years to serve in confinement.

“The Clayton County District Attorney’s Office remains steadfast in its commitment to securing justice for our citizens. We hope this conviction brings peace to the family of Mr. Canty,” District Attorney Tasha Mosley said.
