Renters living at the Renaissance at Garden Walk senior apartments in Clayton County are asking where their rent money is going.
“I believe something is going on, something real fishy,” one person told investigative reporter Ashli Lincoln.
Lincoln interviewed a family member of a renter who didn’t want to be identified because she feared retaliation from management for speaking out.
She told Lincoln she requested her family member’s ledger.
“We have the checks, we went to the bank to confirm the checks were cashed... they were,” she said.
She says they were surprised her rent payments for June and November were not on her ledger, despite proof of written checks and withdrawals from her account.
“I see your name is on the backs of the checks as you’ve endorsed and cashed the checks,” she said.
Lincoln learned the property is managed by the Benoit Group. It’s the same company that manages the London Townhomes in southwest Atlanta.

Last month London Townhomes renters shared similar stories with Lincoln about missing rent payments.
“The assistant manager admits, they took it out of the drop box, but they don’t know where the check is,” said a London Townhomes renter.
Lincoln called the corporate office for the Benoit Group multiple times since Channel 2 Action News’s November investigation. The Benoit Group has not responded.
Renaissance at Garden Walk and The London Townhomes receive state and Atlanta Housing Authority funds.
Channel 2 Action News has emailed both the state and the Atlanta Housing Authority to see if any audits have been conducted.
Atlanta Housing Authority sent the following statement to Channel 2 Action News:
“We are looking into this matter and will call for a review of records, whether we have complaints or not.”
