Street racers hit 3 people while doing stunts in the snow and ice near Southlake Mall

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Police say three people were hurt while they were hit by street racers performing stunts called drifts in a business’ parking lot. Morrow police say the street racers lied to get the business to allow them to perform the dangerous stunts on its property.

Major Mark Wooddall sent Channel 2′s Tom Jones videos of the street racers hitting spectators. In the video, you can see a silver Mustang crashing into people.

Morrow police say they received a 911 call that people were hit by a car at the Harley-Davidson store near Southlake Mall on Saturday afternoon.

Police say EMS arrived and took one person who was still on scene to the hospital.

“The call was for three persons hit. The other two were gone in personal vehicles to hospitals,” Major Wooddall explained.

Wooddall says spectators posted videos on social media of the drifting. He said the videos are helping officers in their investigation.

“Keep on rolling those cameras, youngsters,” Wooddall said.

A manager at Harley-Davidson says they were open when the street racers showed up. He said they told him they had a permit from the city to use his parking lot.

“The business owner did give them permission to be there and the business owner was told that they had a permit,” Wooddall said.

But police say the street racers weren’t being truthful.

“And we did not permit this,” Wooddall said pointedly.

Police say there were between 50 and 100 people watching the drifting. It appears another car hit spectators standing on the snow covered parking lot.

Police say the street racers have to understand what they are doing is dangerous, and someone could get killed. “They’re just not trained to do this,” Wooddall said.

Police say the videos have helped them identify a suspect. And they plan to make an arrest soon.

Officers did not have the conditions of those who were injured.
