A Clayton County judge sentenced Jasmine Kirk to life in prison with the possibility of parole plus 10 years.

The shooting happened at the Waffle House on Tara Boulevard in Jonesboro on June 19, 2020.

Early that morning, Mary Branch sat in her SUV waiting for her food order.

The Clayton County District Attorney’s Office said, Kirk just walked up to Branch with a gun, fired three shots, got back into her car, and drove away. During the investigation, several witnesses identified Kirk as the shooter, which led to her arrest.

The DA’s office said, there was no evidence to support that Kirk and Brach had an altercation before the shooting and no evidence to support they knew each other.

Kirk did admit to “smoking something” before the shooting and claimed she did not remember anything, according to the DA’s office.

Officials said Kirk made sober attempts to hide any evidence but was unsuccessful.

On Jan. 25, Kirk was found guilty of malice murder, felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
