New I-75 express lane ramp opens near Truist Park after 3 years of construction

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A new ramp for the Interstate 75 express lanes in Cobb County will be accessible to drivers for the first time on Friday.

The ramp at Akers Mills Road will open up access to the entire Cumberland area. For those willing to pay to get on the express lanes, they will be able to enter and exit behind the Cobb Energy Center and Cobb Galleria.

The Akers Mill ramp has been under construction for more than three years. It’s the first new access point to the Northwest Corridor Express Lanes since they opened in 2018.

“[There are] about 100,000 daily commuters that come into Cumberland every day,” said Adam Ross.

Ross works as the director of public and government affairs for the Cumberland Community Improvement District. He also commutes in the area and plans to start using the ramp to save time on his drive home.

Cumberland is a huge job center and major cultural and entertainment district from large office buildings, retails and the mall to the Battery Atlanta and Truist Park.

“This is the economic powerhouse engine of Cobb County,” Ross said.

That engine starts revving up for Friday’s afternoon commute. Of course, the express lanes are tolls and drivers need a Peach Pass to use them.
